Wednesday, February 29, Smoke Signals Analysis The movie Somke Signals appeared to be about a boy trying to find himself, but there was a lot of symblism and metaphores that gave the movie deeper meaning.

The first metaphore that started early on in the movie was the symbol of fire. Victor is viewed as fire because he is a strong and angry all the time. Thomas is considered ash because he is frail and weak.

Another metaphore that relates to Thomas being considered ash is the fact that when his house burned down he survived, but his family and his home were gone, which could show that he, metiphorically, burned in that house too and part of him is in those ashes.

Looking at symbols in the movie, basketball seemed to be a very important one. Our first encounter with Victor is him playing basketball, being very aggressive and tough.

Throughout the movie basketball games are a recurring theme.

One of these parallels is also thy symbol of fire. Also, in both of them the fires come back to haunt them. In the movie, the fire keeps coming back to haunt Arnold Joseph, who accidentally started it during the party.

The memory haunts him so badly that it drives him to leave his family and live in a constant state of drunkenness. That, I believe, is the underlying theme in Smoke Signals. The title alone is a cryptic message from Alexie: smoke signals were used to communicate across open plains, plains now destroyed and whithered as though a fire raged across them, which it did in the form of the white man.

My first recommendation is Smoke Signals. Smoke Signals is a story about the modern day lives of Native Americans. A story many young Native Americans experience on federal reservations today The happiness. The sadness. The love. The loss. Smoke Signals is also a story about being human.

It is about the relationship between father and son. Smoke Signals () was the first feature film written, directed, and co-produced by Native Americans to receive a major distribution deal; in addition, all the actors who portrayed Indians are also Native Americans. Jul 03,  · "Smoke Signals'' is, in a way, a continuation of a movie named "Powwow Highway,'' in which Farmer starred as a huge, gentle, insightful man, and A Martinez as more "modern.'' It, too, was a road movie, and it lived through its conversations.3/5.
